Neutering program
Program description
The free programme is intended for community cats — those that will be returned to their territory after the procedure. We prioritise early-stage pregnant females but recommend sterilisation only with prior approval from a veterinary professional. For owners with limited financial means, we offer access to discounted prices through our partner clinics. These prices may vary depending on location and the cat’s sex, generally ranging between 150–250 RON.
For now, we have partnerships with clinics in Cluj-Napoca, Florești, Turda, and Aiton. In addition to the surgery itself, some clinics also offer post-operative hospitalisation, which is important for minimising infections and other potential complications, as well as ensuring the cat is in perfect health when released. The average cost for overnight hospitalisation is 30–40 RON, and the recommended duration is 2–3 days for tomcats and up to 4–5 days for females.
How can I schedule a cat for neutering?
To register a cat for the programme, you can contact us by phone: 0721 947 501, Monday to Friday between 9 AM and 6 PM.
During this call, we will collect the following information: details of the situation and the beneficiary’s contact information, the number, age, and sex of the cats, whether hospitalisation is needed or post-operative care will be provided by the beneficiary, whether a trap cage or transport is required, as well as two preferred dates for travelling to the clinic.
Afterwards, the information will be forwarded to the veterinary clinic where the procedure will take place, and you will receive a confirmation message with all the necessary details. From the time of the initial call to the appointment confirmation, it may take up to 2 working days, depending on the activity level and availability of the partner clinic.
Upon the cat’s discharge, the veterinary clinic will provide you with all the necessary post-operative care instructions. However, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to message us during office hours and we will respond.
The free or reduced-cost neutering programme is here to support cats and those who care for them.
Community involvement
We often receive requests from animal lovers who understand the challenges our work involves, and out of responsibility and a desire to contribute, choose the reduced-cost option rather than free services — even when it concerns a stray cat. These individuals do not turn a blind eye to the needs of the less fortunate and take action by sterilising cats belonging to elderly neighbours, relatives in rural areas, or even stray cats around their apartment blocks. We have community members who regularly carry out sterilisations through our organisation, as part of an ongoing effort to control the cat population in their local area.
We understand the issue of stray animals in all its complexity — from the suffering of kittens born in alleyways who face a life full of dangers, to the emotional burden on people who care but feel overwhelmed by the situation.
We deeply value and actively encourage community involvement in supporting the success of this programme.
Long-term vision
We believe that this project should continue on an indefinite basis, fully aware that the issue of community cats can only be resolved over time, through perseverance, consistency, and strong social involvement.
Together, we can create a more compassionate world, where street cats — even without a roof over their heads — have the chance at a peaceful life, free from the burden of pregnancy and all the risks and hardships it entails.
Together we make the world a better place, cat by cat!
